The Experimental Studies on the Influence of Ginseng Administration Upon Allergic Rhinitis

Abstract
Ginseng has been used not only for a therapeutic purpose of various diseases but also to pursue the eternal youth and longevity during many centries in oriental medicine, but the mechanism of its effectiveness has not been fully proved by scientific experiments.
Tremendous biological experiments were performed with the crude extract of ginseng or its purified constituents during past years. It was demonstrated that ginseng has multiple effects upon the physiologic action such as diuretic, hypotensive and eosinopenic influences. Depressive action on the anaphylactic shock has also been reported.
The present studies were undertaken to evaluate the effect of ginseng morphologically upon allergic rhinitis.
Experimental material and method
Normal rabbits weighing approximately 1.5kg were used for this experiment and divided into following 4 groups.
1. Control group of unsensitized rabbits.
2. Control group of sensitized rabbits.
3. Ginseng administrated group of unsensitized rabbits.
4. Ginseng administrated group of sensitized rabbits.
For sensitizing, lcc of normal horse serum per kg of body weight a day was injected subcutaneously 4 times and 0. 1cc of normal horse serum per kg of body weight was reinjected to the nasal mucosa for producing allergic changes.
The ginseng used in this studies was a powder of Korean white ginseng root, 4 years old, administrated 0. 25gr. per kg of body weight orally a day.
